While membership of a local church is not necessary for salvation, nor does it make someone a Christian, there are some important reasons for committing to a local church.  Here are a few (taken from an article written by Wayde Goodall):
  1. There is Biblical precedent all through the book of acts
  2. Church membership is an expression of commitment
  3. Church membership models caring
  4. Church membership shares the burden
  5. Church membership fosters encouragement
  6. Church membership is symbolic of our heavenly citizenship.
Making a commitment to the local church means much more than adding your name to a roll book. It means taking the responsibilities that come along with the privileges, being blessed and blessing others, and saying "No" to the world’s standard of commitment and "Yes" to God’s.
